(64.7%) the majority of students feel that writing a diary helps them relax. Many students interpret that writing a diary can help them avoid gossip (60.8%). Therefore, more than 40% of students state that those who do not write their diaries lose something important, which is why they will continue to write their diaries.
The second category of statements addresses learning elements. The average score of 2.65 reflects the high agreement that writing a diary has improved learning for most students (78.4%). The majority of students stated that they had experienced an increase in writing since writing a diary. The most common aspect students get from the diary they write is their vocabulary (92.2%). In addition, 78.4% felt that they could express themselves better after they started writing diaries. Many students think that they will become better writers and 54.9% of students participate in writing diaries because there are teachers who direct them. 70.6% of students felt that their teacher encouraged them more after writing a diary.
Furthermore, the majority of students stated that they had better understood teacher instruction after the experience of diary writing (78.4%). Statistics show that most participating students (90.2%) are stimulated to do better because of teacher comments on their book day. Although the majority of students believe they can anticipate what the teacher wants and expect after starting their diary, 41.2% are not sure they can anticipate teacher expectations and requests. Relationships between students and teachers not only appear to be stronger, but the power of relationships helps students enjoy more writing classes.
Then there are open questions
Where the purpose is to validate the results obtained from the questionnaire, and secondly to get detailed information in relation to students' perceptions of diary writing. The first question asked about students' desire to recommend writing a diary to friends, and the reasons for them. Students (84%) stated that they would recommend a diary written to their friends. The most common reason is that written diaries have a good effect, namely the increase in the language they have had since they started writing diaries and students can reflect the positive psychological impact of the diary they wrote.
15.1% of students stated that they would not recommend writing a diary. Because they don't like to write about these writings, and they don't write about their own writing, and feel the positive effects of the writing they write.
